Vignabaldo
Umbria
This is a family-owned business that has gone from strength to strength.
Last year the Sagrantino was named best red wine of its class at Vinitaly. We prefer the Montefalco Rosso, however. It is from the same hillside, but a blend of Sagrantino and Sangiovese, which is much more approachable and has complexity without being overly serious.
Once again we have bought the Grechetto, a white grape that is part of a standard Orvieto blend but when bottled solo is enlightening and excellent everyday drinking.
The Sangiovese from Torgiano is a very nicely made, honest wine that we see as our 'House Claret'.
